Additional Information: | Built by John Whitney Ormsby during the last quarter of the 19th century, the rectangular structure is two-stories high with a fieldstone foundation. Regularly coursed cast stone with a raised pattern, probably from Ormsby's lime and cement company, forms the first story. The upper story is frame with wood clapboard, flaring to form a single skirt just above the first floor. Decorative wood shingles appear in the gable ends. An open newel stair on the interior rises to the second floor which the Ormsby and Green families called "the ballroom". Exposed wooden beams, held in place with wooden pegs, support the roof. |
