Additional Information: | This house, with it ssix-over-six-light sashes and wooden shingle sheathing, has the appearance of a catalog design; however, no specific plan has been identified to match the home. 2008- "This one-and-one-half-story, side-gabled cottage or Cape Cod type house is sheathed with wooden shingles and topped with a side-gabled roof. The symmetrical primary (southwest) facade consists of a central, slightly projecting, gabled entryway with paired, six-over-six-light sashes to either side. Multiple-light sash windows are located throughout the house, most of which are flanked by wooden shutters. A modest wooden bargeboard lines the eaves which also feature exposed rafter tails. Sanborn maps indicate that although a house has been located on this parcel prior to 1923, the subject house was not built here until circa 1925. At that time, the home's owner was William S. Smith (although he had moved to Madison by that point); however, within that same year, the home was purchased by carpenter Peter Pieterek. It is possible that Pieterek was responsible for the home's construction. Peter's wife passed away in 1967; however, Peter remained here until his death in 1992." - "Beaser Ave, 18th St to Lake Shore Dr W", WisDOT ID #9952-14-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd (Schnell) (2008). |

Bibliographic References: | Sanborn maps indicate that a house was on this parcel prior to 1923; however, the footprint does not match that of the existing house. City directories indicate that a William Smith lived here until circa 1925, after which Peter Pieterek bought the property. Pieterek was a carpenter and it is possible that he built the subject house. |
