Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Built by Nicholas Schwalen, his brothers, and other members of the colony, this structure was a combined bakery, slaughterhouse, and smokehouse. It was used by the entire colony which was established by Schwalen and appears on historic maps as "German Settlement". Shed roof and oven have collapsed, but otherwise entirely unaltered (2008). Additional buildings on the property include Nickolas Schwalen's house, a barn, a silo, a corn crib, and a pole barn. |
