IT WAS BUILT TO RAISE CHICKENS AS REPLACEMENTS FOR THE LAYING HENS THAT WERE PRODUCING EGGS IN THE LAYING HOUSE. IT IS CONTRIBUTING BECAUSE IT FITS INTO THE PERIOD OF SIGNIFICANCE FOR THIS RESOURCE, 1930-1975. 2008- "The Arthur M. Karow Hatchery and Egg Farm is a farmstead developed in the mid twentieth century as a chicken hatchery and egg farm. The outbuildings are all related to the production of chickens and eggs except for the large concrete-block garage, a building that is related to a side business of Arthur Karow. The house was the home of Arthur and Lulu Karow. The contributing buildings are desclibed below. [The farmstead consists of the house [140399], hatchery building [150761], laying house [150764], granary [150763], poultry barn [150762], corn crib [150765], sales shed [150766], and the Karow Brothers Garage [150767]]. Poultry Bam, c. 1967 [150762] The poultry bam was constructed around 1967 to raise chickens for the laying house. It is a simple long rectangular building with a gable roof covered with asphalt shingles. The vertical wood board walls sit on a concrete foundation. The window openings sit under the eaves and are small and rectangular and are filled with three-light glazing. A small entry door sits in the south elevation." -"Arthur M.
