Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Built in 1929, this side-gabled, two-and-one-half story, Colonial Revival residence rests on a rusticated concrete block foundation and is clad with plain wood shingles. The asphalt shingled roof carries eave returns. The main facade faces north and the primary entrance is offset to the left (east). It features a small, open entry porch with two plain wooden columns supporting a small pedimented gabled roof. Two six-over-one, double-hung sashes exist to the right (west) and three symmetrically placed examples reside at the second level. The east (right) facade is defined by an attached one-story, one-car garage with a balcony roof guarded by a square-post, wooden railing. Meanwhile, the west (right) elevation is pierced by two six-over-one, double-hung sashes on the first and second floors, while the attic peak exhibits a smaller example. This house was built in 1929 by Two Rivers builder Frank Fronk for Walter Stegmann. Stegmann along with his wife Wanda and son Paul lived in the house until about 1936 when it was sold to Carl Burmeister. Stegemann was a lumber delivery driver with the Nelson Lumber Company of Two Rivers. Meanwhile, Burmeister was a foreman at the Eggers Plywood Company. In 1980, the house was passed on to Burmeister's son Orrin and his wife Valerie, who used it as a summer home. Investigated in a DOE and dismissed as a possible example of a mail-order catalog house. Possesses similarities to the Wardway "Beverly" and "Rochelle" models and the Gordon-Van Tine Model No. 510, as well as the Home Builders' Catalog "Carney" model. Subject home does not match dimensions or room layout. |
