| Additional Information: | Tax rolls (and assessor's records) indicate that this house was built in 1909 by Frank E. Lawson. Lawson was born in 1868 in Delavan, Wisconsin. He grew up on the Town of Walworth, Lawson family farm and attended high school in Sharon, Wisconsin. In 1889, he married Iva Colburn, the daughter of Lucius and Letitia Colburn. Thereafter he purchased a 120-acre farm, which he actively worked himself until 1907 when he took the position of cashier at the Walworth State Bank. He retained the farm and his interest in agricultural pursuits, and he served as the president of the Walworth County Agricultural Society in 1908. As well, he served the following positions: four years as the manager of the Farmer's Co-Operative Creamery Company; fifteen years on the school board; and approximately five years as town clerk. 2010: This two-story, stucco-sheathed, Craftsman-inspired Foursquare is topped with a hipped roof with wide overhanging eaves and features a central, hipped-roof dormer along its primary (northeast) elevation. The home’s central entrance is sheltered by a one-story, hipped-roof, open porch that is comprised of a solid porch wall and pier supports, all of which is sheathed with fieldstone. Windows throughout the house are generally one-over-one-light sashes that are arranged singly and in pairs; however, a tripartite grouping is located along the one-story bay to the south. 2024: Resurveyed. New windows and gutters apparent. Update photo. |
