Additional Information: | Per information received from the Historical Society of Walworth & Big Foot Prairie, Inc. (from President Nancy Lehman, letter dated February 26, 2012), this house was originally located on the north edge of the Mary Maxon estate, which was on the west side of the village square where the 1958 shopping center is now located. A George Loftus rented the home for a few years and then purchased it in April 1923. it was moved to the present site when John Paschke built the 1958 shopping center. 2010: Rising from what appears to be a poured concrete foundation, this one-and-one-half-story, Craftsman-style house is sheathed with stucco. Essentially side-gabled in plan, the primary (southwest) elevation features a central, gabled-roof, open porch with simple square post supports that shelters a double-door entry. A pair of two-over-two-light sashes rests to either side of the doorway, while a single sash window rests above it and within a gabled wall dormer. The open eaves of the dormer and roofline are accented with wooden knee braces. A one-story sunporch extends from the north end of the house, while the south elevation reveals an additional wall dormer and what appears to be a rear, one-story wing. 2024: Resurveyed. House has been repainted and new windows installed. Update photo. |
