NOTES
Additional Information:STILTED BRICK SEGMENTAL ARCH LINTELS. 6/6 WINDOWS. GABLED ELL W/ALUMINUM SIDED ADDITION W/DORMER.

Resurveyed 2014. Appearance unchanged.

This cream brick Gabled Ell was built around 1860, according to Mayville assessor's records. The house consists of a
two-story "upright", front-gabled portion with a small one-story ell. Fenestration is regular and consists of six-over-six
double hung wood windows. These windows are set into segmental arched openings. The arches in the upright portion
have modest ltalianate-style brick hood moulds. Two entry doors are located on the front elevation: the door in the upright
portion is a modern fiberglass replacement, while the door in the ell appears to be a historic wood four-panel door with six
lights. The house has a modern roof but retains its wood eaves and frieze boards.

The house was acquired by Rudolph Sauerhering in 1861. Sauerhering was a
Prussian immigrant who had studied at Koenigsburg University before coming to Mayville in 1851. Rudolph owned a
pharmacy along with his brother Adolph, who also was a physician. No other information was found to suggest eligibility.

The house is a vernacular form with only modest ltalianate stylistic elements and a new roof.

The property was previously surveyed in 1982. The inventory record was updated, including a current photo.

"A smaller & simpler version of this style was built in 1860. The two story brick house has a low pitched roof & arched windows with brick hood molds. Rudolph Sauerhering acquired the house in 1861. The original front porch was removed & a family room was added." "MEANDERING THROUGH MAYVILLE", WOMEN'S SERVICE LEAGUE, 1995.
