Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Camp Byron has been a Methodist meeting place since its inception. The Methodist Church in nearby Byron Center held their annual revival meeting at the camp every year since 1848, only missing one year during the Civil War. In its first years, people camped in tents. Eventually they erected structures, some of which have survived including Ingraham Hall which was built in the mid-1920s, an in-ground swimming pool, and several family cottages, built circa 1900. Both the camp and the swimming pool are the oldest of their kind still in use in the state of Wisconsin. |
