Dane Poor Farm was established in 1854 and maintained farming operations until the early 1870s.

Dane County Poor Farm site consists of three agricultural outbuildings (c.1911), one boiler house (1925), one cemetery (originally two adjacent cemeteries), and one insane asylum (1883) that has been modified and connected to a modern (1960s) health care center that dominates the site.
