NOTES
Additional Information:2023 - The first National Guard unit organized in Reedsburg was introduced in 1898 and the first non-extant armory was constructed on South Park Street in 1903. A new armory building, located at 549 S. Dewey Avenue, was completed in 1965 and designed from a template by the State of Wisconsin Bureau of Engineering. It is a typical example of the Type B Cold War-era National Guard armories constructed in Wisconsin in the 1960s and is home to Troop B, 1st Squadron, 105th Cavalry Regiment. Regiments based at Reedsburg have taken part in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. The Reedsburg Armory was dedicated on 1 May 1965 and was home of Troop B, 1st Squadron, 105th Cavalry Regiment. The new facility replaced a 1903 armory located on South Park Street. The building was designed by the State of Wisconsin Bureau of Engineering and the builder was the A.W. Jeske Company of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Type B Cold War-era armory with laminated wood beams supporting drill hall roof. 2015 - This Contemporary-style National Guard Armory was constructed in 1965. The single story red brick building rests on a slab concrete foundation. The building has an irregular, roughly T-shaped footprint. It is accessed via a circle driveway leading to a covered entry flanked by two large windows on the west elevation. Two long, narrow single-story wings extend to the north and south of the entrance. A garage entrance is located on the south elevation. A prominent gabled roof rises from the center of the building. It is surrounded on three sides by single story offices with flat roofs. 2015- "The previously identified building is a Contemporary-style National Guard Armory constructed in 1965. Reedsburg's National Guard unit was established in 1898 and the original armory was constructed in 1903. The present army, constructed in 1965, is therefore not associated with the early development or establishment of the National Guard in Reedsburg. It is a typical example of the Type B Cold War-era National Guard armories constructed in Wisconsin in the 1960s. Other examples of Type B armories were constructed in Black River Falls (AHI #156821), Menomonie (AHI #156582), Burlington (AHI #149913), Eau Claire (AHI #149914), Portage (AHI #149916), and Appleton (AHI #156581)." -"S Dewey Ave, Railroad St to E Main St", WisDOT #5799-00-63, Prepared by Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, (2015).
