Additional Information: | Feldman, Jim. “Buildings of the University of Wisconsin.” Madison, WI : UW Madison, Archives and Records Management Service, 2006. Originally published 1997. http://madcat.library.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=7134919. Accessed: February 2012. In 2009, this building was identified as potentially eligible in the future (“watch”) for its Modernist design. However, as part of the 2023 update, all the Modernist buildings on campus were carefully reviewed, and Animal Science was evaluated as a modest example of the style, lacking sufficient distinction to qualify for the National Register. While the functions (tower section with offices and labs; lower section with classrooms and mechanicals) and structure (concrete skeleton) are clearly expressed, and the tower displays re-entrant corners, and brickwork forming a perforated screen, the tower is blocky and symmetrical. The interior is not integrated with the exterior, and the site lacks the plaza, planters and other such features that make a property a good example of Modernist style. No historical significance was discovered. |
