"Just east of the Gym are the Wisconsin Center and the adjoining Alumni House, which were built by the University of Wisconsin Foundation with gifts from alumni and friends of the University. The center is used for adult education conferences and operated by UW-Extension. Completed in 1958, the center "places a roof over the Wisconsin Idea of service to the state." A closed-circuit sound and television system makes it possible to operate the entire center as a single convention hall. Office of the Foundation are on the third floor. The UW Foundation, organized in 1945, is the official fund raising and gift receiving organization for the University. More than 48,000 gifts from almuni, friends, corporations, and foundations totaled $30 million in 1986." University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Madison Tour Guide, 1988.
