It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. BUILT ON SPECULATION IN 1836 TO HOUSE THE STATE CAPITOL. NELSON DEWEY DIED IN THE HOTEL IN 1889. The fourth floor of the building was removed in 1942. 2016: Most windows have been replaced, openings left intact. According to village president, owner is planning to rehabilitate. "It operated as a hotel, dining room and bar until 1985...Many additions were added to the "Big Brick" as it was proudly called; but they all have been removed..." (Cassville Walking Tour brochure).
