Additional Information: | This two-story house has a long one-story side wing. The main block has a gable roof with full pediment. The wing has a long hip roof. The house is covered with clapboards and fenestration is regular. The main entrance in the wing is decorated with sidelights. A later-added porch with posts and a frieze in a cut-out pattern spans the front and side of the main block like a veranda. Built between 1848 and 1852, the John H. Martin House is considered the oldest known house still standing in the city of Fond du Lac. It has a full pediment decoation, symmetrical plan, and regular fenestration, all details typical of the style. It has a very high level of preservation and is a local landmark.
