NOTES
Additional Information:A DOE was completed for this property (church, rectory, convent & school) in April 2011:
The Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Elementary School is a Contemporary-style building located on the east side of Osseo
Road, just north of the church. Erected in 1967,51 the newly-inventoried, one-story school retains an irregular,
but largely rectilinear footprint, and faces southwest toward the roadway. It rises from a poured concrete foundation. The
exterior walls are faced with red brick and concrete. The roof is generally flat but displays a small central gabled section.
The building's cantilevered overhangs, brick and concrete walls, horizontal slider windows, and elevated window
placement are all design elements indicative of 1960s modern-era architecture. Some aluminum openings remain intact
but others carry replacement glass and appear to be the only major alterations.

The continued growth of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church eventually led to the construction of other religious
buildings on the property, including a convent, rectory, and this school. The first school for the parish was a brick building
erected in 1885, later replaced in 1903. The 1903 edifice served the parish until 1967 when the present school was
constructed. The 1885 and 1903 schools have since been demolished.

The Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Elementary School may be eligible for the National Register as part of the Saints Peter
& Paul Church Complex, which includes the church (1895-96), convent (1901/1932}, and rectory (1915). All of the
buildings collectively retain integrity. The complex is significant for its Polish cultural association. The Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church was founded by immigrants from Poland who began arriving in Trempealeau County in the 1860s. As with most cultures, the church is the center of the community and is typically a cornerstone for each ethnicity seeking to preserve their cultural identity, and the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church is no exception. The complex always retained a school and the current school represents this evolving school function.
