| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2012- This largely intact, very small, free-standing building is a representative example of an early gasoline filling station. This Colonial Revival Style-influenced Side Gable Vernacular Form building has a square plan, it is one-story-tall, and it is clad in stucco. This building occupies a corner parcel that was created by the intersection of the north-south-running Hill Ave. and the east-west-running Belknap St. and its main elevation faces south onto Belknap St. This building was built in 1931 as a gasoline filling station for the Ronchak brothers but although still largely intact and in good condition, it lacks the architectural distinctiveness that is found in Superior's other intact historic gasoline stations. -"USH 2 (Belknap St.)" WisDOT ID #8680-00-01 (71), Prepared by Timothy F. Heggland (MAP) (2012). STEEPLY PITCHED GABLES W/CLAPBOARD SIDING IN GABLE ENDS. GAS PUMPS STILL VISIBLE IN YARD WHEN FIRST SURVEYED IN 1983. BUILT AS A GASOLINE FILLING STATION BY THE RONCHAK BROTHERS AND USED AS SUCH UNTIL 1962. |
