MONUMENTAL ENGAGED IONIC COLUMNS BETWEEN 2ND FLOOR ROUND ARCH WINDOWS PILASTERS ON SIDE ALMOST IDENTICAL TO R#1802 [Date Cnst:(LOCAL LIBRARY)] Badger State Bank was chartered in 1926. This building, which formally opened on June 4, 1927, housed the bank on the first floor and professional offices (first tenants were a doctor, a dentist, and an attorney) on the second floor. The bank moved to a new location in 1972. In 1974, after the Village of Denmark purchased the building for $1, the building housed municipal offices and the Denmark branch of the Brown County Library. Today the village offices occupy the building. Resurveyed 2009. Appearance unchanged. 2009- "This two-story Neoclassical building was constructed in 1927 for the Badger State Bank. The stone-clad street facade consists of two engaged Doric pilasters and two engaged, fluted Ionic columns which support a full Ionic entablature and parapet wall above. Inscribed on the frieze is "THE BADGER STATE BANK". The entrance is located in the center bay. A diminutive entablature supported on two corbels caps the entrance, and a rectangular transom is present above. The two side bays have rectangular windows whose proportions mimic that of the entry doors. On the second floor are three tall arched windows with stone sills, lintels, and scroll-shaped keystones. Each consists of paired 1/1 double hungs capped with a round-arched window. The side and rear walls are clad in cream brick. Fenestration on the sides and rear is irregular and consists mainly of single double-hung windows." -"CTH KB: CTH R to Prospect St", WisDOT#4538-04-71, Prepared by Justin Miller, (2009). |
