Additional Information: | WOOD BELT/LINTEL COURSESPOLYGONAL SIDE ORIEL UNDER SHED ROOFWIDE OVERHANGING EAVES 2016- "This house is a fine example of the American Craftsman design. Looking like an oversized bungalow, this house has all the features of this particular style. This stucco-sided house was built for Melvin Lewis, a McFarland farmer. Kenneth and Eileen Brost purchased the house in 1984 and raised their two daughters in it." -"Historic McFarland: A Walking Tour" booklet, Third printing, published by the McFarland Historical Society, (March 2016). 2021 - Resurveyed. This two-and-one-half-story Craftsman-style house was built c.1918-1920. It has a rectangular footprint, concrete foundation, stucco cladding, and a side-gabled roof with wide overhanging eaves. A screened-in shed roof porch spans the full width of the façade. The porch has a concrete stoop and is supported by square wood posts on stucco-clad piers. The second story of the façade has two regularly spaced one-over-one wood windows the metal storm covers. Centrally located above is a prominent gable dormer with a pair of one-over-one windows. Along the northeast (side) elevation are regularly spaced one-over-one wood sash windows and an oriel window with a shed roof. At the northwest (rear) elevation is a two-story enclosed wood porch with wood sash and replacement windows. An additional stucco clad addition extends westward from the rear elevation. The southwest (side) elevation contains regularly spaced one-over-one wood windows. East of the house is a two-stall detached garage. |
