Additional Information: | This two story frame house with narrow lap siding exhibits design characteristics of the Italianate style. These characteristics include a low pitch hip roof, overhanging eaves with decorative brackets, decorative window molding, and corner pilasters. The full front porch is not original. Assessment roll research indicates that this house was owned by David Jeffris from 1867 to the early 1890s. Jeffris, a native of Kentucky, settled on a farm near Janesville in 1846. In 1867, he moved to Janesville and established a lumber business. In conjunction with his lumber business, he constructed a number of buildings throughout Janesville. Jeffris was one of the founders of the Janesville Machine Company and the Merchants & Mechanics Bank. |
