Additional Information: | This two story frame house features an L-shaped plan configuration, an unspecified stone foundation (with additions), a clapboard exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled mutli-gabled roof. The building, which is in good condition, retains elements of the Greek Revival style including returns at the gable ends, and pilaster strips. The former single-family residence, which is in good condition, is now being used as a duplex. George P. Walworth owned the building in 1982. The porch appears to have been added at the turn of the century. Historical Statement: This residence was built in about 1855 for Warren Herkimer. (See Bib. Ref. A, B. C). Herkimer is listed in the 1870 City Directory as a "traveller." He lived in the house until his death in 1878. The building has architectural significance in that it represents a type, period or a method of construction. |
