NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This one and a half-story astylistic utilitarian ranger station, located on the upper elevation of the site, features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a concrete foundation, a board exterior, a wood trim, and an asphalt shingled jerkinhead roof. Half round log siding further distinguishes the structure's exterior. The building, which underwent a remodeling in 1938, is in good condition. The Ladysmith Ranger Station has functioned as a ranger station since its date of construction in 1932. The original bunk room still exists upstairs as the crew lived there three seasons out of the year. The office was located downstairs. A cast block (WCD) foundation appears under the office only. (WCD used to be the state's second or third largest phone system. It was completely separate from the Bell System until the 1970s. The old WCD network is still used to connect up to many watch towers). The Ladysmith Ranger Station is to be replaced in 2003. The DNR will probably be in charge of demolishing the station. Other buildings related to this structure include garages and storage buildings. (See Map Codes 16/16, 16/17, 16/18).
