| Additional Information: | Photo code #2: 75BR-10/12. Fine small bank building in the Neo-Classical Revival style whose main facade is dominated by a two-story tall Ionic order limestone portico which has two smooth Ionic order columns placed in antis between antae. A very fine pedimented limestone entrance is placed between the columns with the original bronze carriage lamps flanking the doors still intact. The five windows which originally were a part of this portico have all been filled with plywood. The freize of the portico still shows traces of the original bronze letters, still in place as of 1975, and above the freize is a tall limestone parapet with fluted limestone panels echoing the rhythm of the bays below. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4 The facades of the rest of the building are defined by the brick wall surfaces bounded by the tall limestone foundation, limestone cornice, and the limestone quoins laid in an in and out band at each corner of the facade. Wide limestone beltcourses encircle the building at the levels of the architrave and cornice of the main portico and there is a tall limestone on brick parapet above. All windows in the main facade have been bricked shut. Historical Background The Farmers and Exchange Bank built this building in 1922, moving from a building diasonally across the intersection. The building became the Wisconsin State Bank in 1935, and the First Wisconsin acquired it in 1969, although by that time, the banking function had moved out. |
