Additional Information: | Photo code #3: 75BR-4/25 Excellent, large American Foursquare with brownstone walls and hip roof with wide, overhanging boxed eaves. The principal facade is symmetrical and three bays wide with a full width, hip roof, open front porch. The porch roof is supported by four piers, the outermost two of which are square and brownstone covered and the inner two, framing the entrance, are stucco covered and slightly battered. The piers rest on brownstone pedestals with closed brownstone rails between the pedestals having concrete top railings. Two large picture windows with leaded glass transoms flank the centrally placed entrance door. The three second floor windows on the main facade are all 4/1 light double sash. A large three window, hip roof dormer faces the front having flared, wood shingle covered walls. The dormer window is centered on the main hip roof, rectangular oriel window on the south facade's first floor having stucco siding and a flared base. There is a 1 1/2 story carriage house (29/9) behind the house with stucco siding. Three automobile doors and a large, three window shed roof dormer facing front with wide overhanging eaves. This fine American Foursquare house and related carriage house are significant for the high degree of [historic material] they exhibit and for the use of what is normally a more modest style in a somewhat former, high style manner. Stone sided Foursquare houses are relatively uncommon, this being the only one in West Green Bay. The use of brownstone may be due to the available supply in the Ashland area and is, in any case uncommon, this being the only brownstone residence in West Green Bay. Both house and carriage house exist in their original setting and in excellent, unaltered condition making then good examples of their type and period. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4 |
