Additional Information: | SANBORN MAPS SHOW THAT THIS WAS A GABLE ELL HOUSE IN 1904 AND THAT IT WAS EITHER GREATLY ALTERED AND EXPANDED BETWEEN 1904 AND 1912 OR ELSE WAS TOTALLY REBUILT AS A NEW HOUSE DURING THIS PERIOD. THIS HOUSE MAY BE SHOWN ON THE 1891 BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF STEVENS POINT AS A GABLE ELL HOUSE. While earlier research suggested suggests a circa 1885 date of construction for this property, Sanborn maps indicate that the house was significantly renovated (or replaced) into its current appearance between 1904 and 1912. Directories list Soo Line engineer Melzar Buck as the owner from the late 1900s until at least 1920. Clinton Copps, who was the secretary-treasurer of the Copps Grocery Store, lived in the house in the late 1920s. His wife, Sarah, remained there until at least 1940. |
