Additional Information: | The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is significant under Criterion C as a representative and important example of English Gothic style church architecture in Merrill. Members of St. John's Lutheran Church met at Mrs. Carl Stange's home on Cottage Street to organize a Lutheran church on the west side of Merrill. In 1885 St. John's gave them a release, and the new congregation built Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (not extant) on the northwest corner of State and Division streets. In 1907 A.H. Stange, prominent lumber baron, donated $25,000 and the corner of State and West Streets for a new brick Gothic church. |
