NOTES
Additional Information:Waterford Woods Golf Course was laid out in 1928 as a companion to the Waterford Woods subdivision, which was developed in 1927 by Willis J. Meehan of Milwaukee. The course was developed by N. Louis Afton, and although it was not part of the subdivision, it was marketed as one of the subdivision’s many recreational amenities. Edwin O.G. Head of Milwaukee laid out the course and noted Milwaukee-area architect Russell Barr Williamson designed the clubhouse. The course struggled through the 1930s and was taken over by the Village of Waterford in the 1940s. During this time, the course essentially was an open field with sand bunkers and at-grade greens and tees. In 1948, the course was purchased by Dick Swift, who passed it on to his son Rick in 1971. The Swifts operated the course in a semi-private manner where one could purchase a membership, but the course was open to the general public. Swift sold the course in 2008. During their tenure, the Swift family lengthened the course from 5,800 to 6,200 yards, converted several straight holes into dog legs, planted hundreds of trees and reconstructed all of the greens and tee boxes by raising them.
