CORBEL TABLE,STRAUBEL& SONS BEGAN STRAUBEL MACHINE COMACHINE FOR MAKING INTERFOLD TOWELS PATENTED HERESTRAUBEL ALSO PATENTED DOUBLE FOLD TOILET TISSUE INTERFOLDING MACHINE. NAER INVENTORY (06/1979): In 1897 Louis Straubel purchased a small machine shop. He and his two brothers, Ernest T. and Ed L., formed a closed stock company which they named the Straubel Machine Company. The company catered to the local paper mills designing and improving many paper converting machines. The first machine for making interfold towels in Green Bay was designed and patented by L.A. Straubel, and sold to Northern Paper Mills in 1917. In 1920 the company began converting paper on its own machines instead of selling the machines. In 1929 Straubel designed and patented the first double fold toilet tissue interfolding machine. Much of the original equipment is in good repair and still being used in the factory. The original building was built in 1908 and measures 60' x 165'. It is built of brick and it has a saw toothed roof. An additional dated pre-1934 is listed in the Sanborn Map as having a sawtooth steel truss roof. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4 |
