Additional Information: | LARGE RECTANGULAR BLDG OF REINFORCED CONCRETE ROTHE ENTERED EAST RIVER FOUNDRY IN 1876 AS APPRENTICE BUILT HIS OWN FOUNDRY IN 1888. In photo and/or map codes, (F) stands for Fox River Valley Survey. Negatives filed with survey project. NAER INVENTORY: Joseph Rothe entered the East River Foundry in 1876 as an apprentice and then worked as a foreman for three years. In 1886 he rented a small shop and his general jobbing business prospered to such an extent that two years later he built a foundry for himself. In 1909 he incorporated the business and in 1912 built a new shop which measured 80 x 120 feet. In 1925 the capacity of the plant was double with the addition of a grinding room. The original building is a two story structure with a low pitched, skylighted roof. It is constructed of reinforced concrete columns and slabs with brick curtain walls. The windows are square and rectangular grid type that are pivoted. The 1925 addition is constructed of brick with a flat roof. The facade is veneered with multi-colored brown brick. The building has been replaced by a parking lot. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4 |
