Additional Information: | After the formation of Plymouth Church in 1858, a Baptist congregation did not gather in Burlington until 1955, when Bethel Baptist Church was organized. That year meetings began being held in a tent on Pine Street, then above a paint store on Milwaukee Avenue. Later that year, the congregation purchased a house on Pine Street to serve as a temporary church and parsonage. In 1956, land on Kendall Street was donated to the congregation on which a church was constructed at the cost of $14,000. Two years later, a house on the corner of Kendall and Amanda Streets was also donated to the church to be used as a parsonage. Bethel Baptist was active at this location through 1980s. Today the church is occupied by Grace Church. |
