Bibliographic References: | 2021: SHOREWOOD HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 'A GUIDE TO SHOREWOOD'S ARCHITECTURE,' 2001--cites County landmark information that cites the Heydeck name, a 1916 date of construction and the architect being Elmer Grey; however, there is no supporting documentation. Note that Elmer Grey left Milwaukee in 1904 and moved to Pasadena. Assessor's information does cite a 1916 date of construction; however, the historic address of 1285 Lake and Heydeck's name is listed as living there as of 1914. Furthermore, the American Contractor, 13 September 1913, p72, cites the construction of a one-and-one-half-story bungalow being built in East Milwaukee (the prior name of Shorewood) by architects Gray-Clarke Co. and owner is Aaron Heydeck (other spellings include Heydecke and Heydecka). The Gray-Clarke Co. was comprised of architects Frank D. Gray and Stewart L. Clark. It remains unclear as to where the information for the county designation originated from and further checking should be done into the county designation. As well, tax rolls could be checked to verify the home's date of construction. By 1917, the home was owned by Edward A. and Anna Farmer. |
