Bibliographic References: | Assessor's information cites a 1908 date of construction; however that seems too early based on the architectural styling of the home. Charles Jr. and Caroline Stolper are identified as living at this address by no later than 1918 (and are identified in Shorewood as of 1917) and they remained there until at least 1933, when Charles Stolper died. A citation in The American Contractor, 6 March 1915, p89, cite that the Stolpers had CW Valentine design a "French Renaissance style" house for them as of that year. It is assumed that this is the house that was built; most likely completed in 1916-17. Additional citation in The Daily Reporter, 3 January 1915, noting that Valentine will be ready in about two weeks for the erection of a residence for Mrs. Charles Stolper on Lake Drive near Lake Bluff. Although hollow tile and stucco construction is noted. |
