Additional Information:PALLADIAN GABLE WINDOW W/PILASTERS. MOULDED LINTEL & TRACERY PORCH. IONIC COLUMNS AND SPINDLE WORK PORCH AND BALCONY RAILINGS. BALCONY DOOR W/FLANKING DORIC PILASTERS & CORNICE W/SWAG MOTIF. POLYGONAL SIDE ORIEL. MOULDED EAVES. John C. Black (1858-1938) was a prominent lumberman and businessman in Shawano. In order to build this house, which was designed by Foeller & Schoeber of Green Bay, Black's original house on this site was moved to the corner of W. Green Bay and Smalley streets. 2023: Resurveyed for the Franklin Street - W. Green Bay Street Residential Historic District DOE, house has replacement siding and the roof is sheathed in standing-seam metal. John C. Black was an early settler of Shawano who worked in the lumber industry throughout Wisconsin and Michigan. He returned to Shawano and became a partner in the Shawano Lumber Company and later the director of the Wolf River Paper and Fiber Company. Black served important community roles as well, including director of the Wisconsin National Bank in Shawano for thirty years, and as a member of the city council.
