Additional Information: | 3 STORY ROUND CNR TOWER W/BELL CAST ROOF. PORCH W/GROUPED IONIC COLUMNS & SPINDLE WORK RAILING. WIDE MOULDED AND RETURNED EAVES. WOOD SHINGLED DORMER W/ROUND ARCHED WINDOW W/KEYSTONE MOTIF. DORMER OVER 2ND FLR WOOD SHINGLED BAY FLANKED BY IONIC PILASTERS. 2023: Resurveyed for the Franklin Street - W. Green Bay Street Residential Historic District DOE, the porch is enclosed with wood screens and turned wood railings. Byron H. Garfield was an early post carrier and stagecoach driver between Shawano and Clintonville. He was appointed Shawano’s postmaster in 1913. Later that year, he and his wife, Minnie, purchased the Northwestern Hotel. They successfully operated the building for many years as the Murdock Hotel (House). Minnie was a charter member of both the local Eastern Star chapter and local Woman’s Club. |
