Additional Information: | Write-up from the 2019 City of New Berlin Survey: Constructed of concrete block, this 1960s Contemporary-style gas and service station is topped with a low-pitched, gabled roofline. Two-thirds of the building is dedicated to the service portion of the business and features three large, overhead metal-and-glass garage doors, above which is clerestory lighting that runs immediately beneath the roofline. The northerly wall of the garage section is comprised of one large, multiple-light window opening. The building’s southerly end comprises the retail area and is set off by another low-pitched, gabled roofline. A historic Cities Service gas pump is located outside of the station, which includes a modern canopy over the gas pumps. Permit information indicates that the station was built by the Moore Oil Company in 1963-64 at an approximate cost of $35,000 and was known as the Spur Service Station. The canopy was added in 1991. Today the building serves as a Citgo station. |
