Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Sunset Circle Residential Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2023 Although the Village of Allouez assessor data lists the construction date for 645 Sunset Circle as 1958, the building permit for new construction indicates construction was begun by contractor Fabian Redmond in 1961. Aerial imagery also confirms the house was not yet constructed in 1960. Based on the Green Bay City Directory, the house was completed in 1962. The Dr. Glen F. and Thelma L. Denys House is a one-story single-family ranch type dwelling featuring influences of the Colonial Revival style such as quoins, entrance sidelights, corbelled cornice, and eave returns. The side-gabled house is situated on an angled lot with an L-shaped plan consisting of the northwest facing living space and the north facing attached garage. Per the building permit, the exterior is clad in white glazed antique provincial brick veneer. The same material is used to create a quoin effect at the corners and a corbelled string course reminiscent of a column capital below a flat frieze trim in the eaves. The flat frieze trim was installed after 2013 and replaced the original dentil frieze. From the side-gabled roof, an internal brick chimney with pointed arch masonry cap rises from the ridge of the living spaces and a squared cupola rises from the ridge of the attached garage. The main entrance is slightly recessed into the house and is offset by a prominent front-gable with a bay window. The principal elevation (northwest) also features a large picture window, and two banks of three windows are at the northwest corner of the living space. Since 2013, the original multi-lite, white painted wood sash windows were replaced with black steel or vinyl sash windows that differ in lite configuration and functionality. Within the same time frame, the wrought iron at the main entrance was replaced with a wood pergola. |
