Additional Information: | This one-story, flat-roofed, Contemporary-style commercial building features a narrow band of windows immediately beneath the roofline. The roof extends forward over the doors to form an overhang with minimal square post supports. Walls consist of both brick and board-and-batten facing. This structure was built circa 1964 by the Federal Land Bank Association (FLBA) of Fond du Lac, a lending institution that is historically tied to the Federal Farm Loan Act of 1916, which established twelve Federal Land Banks to provide long-term mortgage loans to farmers, ranchers and rural residents. Provisions for short-term loans were provided for as of the Agricultural Credits Act of 1923. The Farm Credit Act of 1933 established the Farm Credit System, which offered short-, intermediate- and long-term loans for the purpose of agriculture. FLBAs were lending agents for Federal Land Banks and provided for long-term loans. As of 1973, there were fifty-eight FLBAs located in four states: North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. In 1977, the FLBA merged with the Production Credit Association of Appleton and it continued to serve as a lending institution. The current firm occupying the building is Badgerland Financial, which continues to offer financial products and services to residents of rural Wisconsin. |
