| Additional Comments | This metal lift bridge (B-44-081 ), known as Veterans Memorial Bridge, was constructed in 1984. It is a vertical lift bridge of steel construction as designed by Owen Ayres & Associates. The bridge deck is 48 feet wide with one span of 130 feet. The words "Veterans Memorial Bridge" are displayed on the overhead supports above each approach. The bridge is in fair condition (the lift mechanism is currently in need of repairs) and retains a high degree of integrity. The bridge won the 1984 National Steel Bridge Alliance moveable bridge prize. Although the bridge is a very distinctive element of the Kaukauna landscape and Fox River canal system, its recent construction date renders it ineligible for listing. moveable bridge |
