NOTES
Additional Information:THIS BUILDING IS A LARGE EXAMPLE OF ROCK-FACE CONCRETE BLOCK CONSTRUCTION, A TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION THAT IS OF ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST. ROCK-FACED CONCRETE BLOCKS BECAME POPULAR IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY FOR FOUNDTIONS AND SOME BUILDERS PROMOTED THEM FOR ENTIRE BUILDINGS, BUT NOT A LARGE NUMBER WERE CONSTRUCTED. THE ROCK-FACE WAS MEANT TO RESEMBLE STONE, A BUILDING MATERIAL PEOPLE WERE FAMILIAR WITH. HOWEVER, ENTIRE CONCRETE BOCK BUILDINGS DID NOT BECOME POPULAR UNTIL THE MID-TWENTIETH CENTURY WHEN THE SMOOTH CONCRETE BLOCK BECAME POPULAR. EVENTUALLY POURED CONCRETE OVERTOOK CONCRETE BLOCKS IN POPULARITY IN LATE TWENTIETH CENTURY CONSTRUCTION.
