Additional Information: | This Greek Revival house is sheathed in clapboards. A one-story wing is attached to the rear (east), part of whcih is clad in narrow clapboard suggesting a later date of construction. Plats suggest that W. J. Jennings built a house on this two-acre parcel in the north side of Section 35 sometime before 1874. Born in 1820 in Connecticut, Jennings farmed 320 acres in adjacent Section 26. George W. Thompson (identified on plats as G.W.T. for this parcel, but by his full name on adjacent property) most likely owned the house from the early 1890s into the late 1910s. Thompson was born in 1849 in New York State and married his wife Cornelia in 1875. He died in 1919. The next known owner is Lawrence Hoyt in 1961. |
