Additional Information: | This 2-story Commercial Vernacular building was constructed in 1895. It is irregular in plan with brick and composition board walls and a flat roof with a corbelled brick cornice. The front elevation faces west and is asymmetrical in plan. The first story is clad in composition board siding and contains a recessed doorway, two pairs of newer shop windows, and a glass entry door with narrow shop windows on either side and a transom above. An asphalt-shingled awning roof spans the width of the fagade above the first story. The second story contains six 1-over-1 windows, all but one of which have decorative arched crowns. The second-story windows are separated by pairs of vertical brick bands. A stone panel within the cornice displays the building's construction date and the name "STRITESKY" in relief. The building is in good condition, but retains a relatively low degree of integrity due to the replacement of the original shop windows and the re-cladding of the first story in composition board siding. Because of its diminished integrity (specifically, the loss of its original character-defining shop windows), the building is not a particularly fine representative of Commercial Vernacular architecture. This building has not been previously surveyed. A new AHI record was created. |
