Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled Granada Theatre exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. This building was part of the Granada Theatre construction, but was not associated with the function of the theater. It served to supplement the original theater owner's income via rental of the first-floor retail and second-floor apartment spaces. This Mediterranean Revival movie theater building [10770] was constructed in 1928 following a design by J. Mandor Matson. It is rectangular in plan with red brick and plaster walls. A small retail building shares the theater's north wall. This building was built in 1928 as part of Matson's Granada Theatre construction. The front elevation contains a boarded-over storefront with a recessed doorway at the first story. Above this is a decorative plaster frieze featuring a patterned rosette motif. The second story contains a bank of three 1-over-1 windows with a decorative plaster surround; twisted engaged columns are located on each side of the center window, and all three are capped by an arched crown with foliated pargeting. Simply decorated plaster coping is located along the front roofline. The adjacent retail building has not been previously surveyed; a new AHI record was created. |
