Sampson Builders, general contractors. Sachtjen was an orthopedic surgeon. His house has a swimming pool and is one of the most elaborate in Hill Farms.

"The canted brick walls of this house set it apart from other homes in the neighborhood. Designed by Madison architects Krueger, Kraft and Associates, Sampson Builder constructed the house in 1962 for Dr. Ken M. and Beverly Sachtjen. Permit records indicate that the estimated construction costs for the house were $40,000 approximately double the cost of other homes built in that period. The Sachtjens added the pool in 1966.

The various functions of the house are expressed as individual units on the exterior. The bedroom wing is marked by vertical bands of windows, while the family room is expressed in the large picture window. Joining the two wings is a taller central core containing the formal living room and dining room. The gull height windows facing the yard in these rooms increase drama of the spaces.

The home was clearly built for a large famly. The bedroom wing contained four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Located below the wing is a large recreation room with storage spaces below the central core of the house.

The house has had few alterations. in the early 1990s the owners remodeled the kitchen and incorporated the former sunroom into the larger kitchen area." Hill Farms Home Tour, Madison Trust for Historic Preservation, 2006.
