Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled Lake Mills Downtown Commercial Historic District exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. This two-story Romanesque Revival style building was constructed in 1895. A majority of the front (east) facade is clad in rough-faced brownstone. Only a small portion between the cornice and second-story windows is clad in brick. It has a flat roof with a parapet, overhanging eave, and metal entablature with garland details, the words “Williams Block,” bracket, and scrollwork. The first-floor front facade features recessed entries at the northeast and southeast corners with rounded arch surrounds that spring from stone columns. Large single-pane plate glass windows with covered transoms are also located on the first floor. A simple ornamented metal panel flanked by decorative brackets and the words “E.A. Williams” spans the length of the front facade separating the first and second story. The second story is dominated by paired, one-over-one, double-hung sash windows flanked by narrow, one-over-one, double-hung sash windows, and three-light rounded arch transoms with rusticated stone arch surrounds and sills. |
