| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. THIS CHURCH/SCHOOL COMPLEX WAS DESIGNED BY GAUSEWITZ & CASHIN, MADISON, WI ARCHITECTS. THE SCHOOL PORTION WAS BUILT FIRST, IN 1957. AND THE CHURCH PORTION WAS ADDED TO THE WEST END OF THE SCHOOL PORTION IN 1972. GAUSEWITZ & CASHIN ALSO DESIGNED A SEPARATE CONVENT BUILDING BEHIND THE SCHOOL IN 1962. 2017 The St. Jerome School/Church complex is a Contemporary style, single story school and church built in 1958. The school/church faces east towards WIS89/Farnham street and has an irregular footprint. The roof is flat and the eaves have a slight overhang that shades the front windows. The structure is constructed of reinforced concrete and brick. There does not appear to be a basement to the structure. The main school entrance is slightly recessed underneath the eave of the roof. Bands of fixed windows appear on the front of the building. The church portion of the complex is located on the south, south-west portion of the building and shares an east-facing entrance with the school. The church nave is located behind this entrance. Bands of fixed windows light the square, flat roofed structure. On the south-facing façade is another entrance. The only free-standing contributing building is the former convent, located on the west side of the school. The building is side gabled, one story and has a rectangular plan. There is one east-facing entrance and a ribbon of small windows running the length of the façade. |
