NOTES
Additional Information:This rectangular, yellow brick building originally housed Madison Water Utility’s Unit Well No. 3, which was drilled in 1928. The well was abandoned and sealed in 2007 due to poor water quality. The building, which is now used for storage, is a small, vernacular public works structure featuring some Classical Revival elements, including corner brick pilasters that extend above the roofline and a parapet with stone coping. Other stone details include small, square accents across the frieze and vertical striping at the tops of the pilasters. A stone nameplate centered in the frieze on the east elevation reads, “Unit Well No. 3, Water Department, Madison, Wis.” This side of the building also includes a center entry door flanked by two-over-two wood sash windows. On the north elevation is a center garage bay that has been downsized to fit a pedestrian door. A two-over-two wood sash window is located to each side.
