Additional Information: | 2015- "This two-story commercial building features a brick parapet front, while the two side walls are covered with wide siding. The entrance elevation includes a storefront with a recessed entrance, along with an additional door that accesses the upper-level living quarters. A multi-light transom is included in both the storefront and above the side door. The second floor is comprised of two tripartite groupings with six-over-one-light sash. The shaped parapet is trimmed with stone coping. Windows along both of the side walls are irregularly arranged and appear to be modern replacements. Assessor’s records indicate that the building was built in 1905; however, it achieved its current appearance as of a storefront remodel in 1925. The building’s earliest owner/occupant of record was Lloyd Grant, who operated the Mutual Tailoring Company there in 1921. As of the 1925 storefront remodel, the building’s first-floor occupant was Morris Bernstein, also a tailor. As of 1942, the structure functioned as a retail tire store." -"N Teutonia Ave, W Garfield Ave-W Groeling Ave ", WisDOT #2080-00-03, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (Schnell). (2015). |
