Additional Information: | The Frank S. & Olga Novotny House is one-and-one-half stories in height with a rectangular plan, a broad, low pitched side gabled roof with wide overhanging eaves, and dark brick cladding at the first floor level and decorative half timbers infilled with stucco above in the gable ends. A front porch spans the entire front façade under the main roof with a low brick wall terminating at each end with slightly tapered, wide brick piers supporting a broad, shallow arch clad in vertical wood siding; the porch has been filled in with a non-historic screen system. Other prominent features include a low gabled dormer clad in wood shingle siding centered on the front façade and Craftsman style detailing a wide bargeboards and simple wood brackets. All window openings appear to be original, generally with historic wood 9-over-1 lite double hung windows at the first floor level and replacement windows at the second floor. The house was constructed for Frank S. and Olga Novotny in 1922. Frank was a travelling firearms salesman and gunsmith. The Novotnys lived in the house through 1952, when it was purchased by Carl M. Glocke, the President of the Union National Bank, and his wife Esther. In 1960, the house was sold to John R. and Bernice Walsh; John was the general manager of the New York Life Insurance Company. Frank and Helen Goodavish purchased the house in 1965 and resided there through the late 1990s; Frank was the manager of the Four Seasons Hotel. |
