Cedar Bend Park, established in 1912, occupies the southern tip of a peninsula located south of W. 6th Street formed by a pronounced meander in the Root River. The park is generally flat and contains fairways and greens for three holes of the Washington Park Golf Course, which are divided by stands of mature trees. Vegetation along the Root River consists of shrubby undergrowth and deciduous trees. The Park Commission purchased the land for Cedar Bend Park at Jens Jensen's urging.
