Additional Information: | 1998- "This free-standing post stands just southeast of the bridge. It is of masonry consturction finished with red brick in common bond. The post is trimmed with stone or concrete and includes: a ase and a cap with a classical profile' raised and recessed stone panels on the post's west face (overlooking North Port Washington Road); and a brick panel with stone corner blocks. According to Glendale city manager Richard Maslowski, this post was one of a pair that formed the gateway to a small munitions factory that the U.S. War Department (no the Federal Department of Defense) operated just south of the bridge during the late 1930s and the early 1940s. Originally, there was a guard post nearby. The post is the only surviving remnant associated with the federal munitions factory." -"Milwaukee, 7.5'", WisDOT 2570-07-00/70, Prepared by Elizabeth L. Miller. (2000). 2019 - Not extant (Heritage Research, Ltd.). |
